If you are tired of looking at a boring fireplace, but you love the idea of having a fireplace, you should know that there are a lot of things you can do to make it less boring. You can often change just a few things around your fireplace and increase the invitingness of it to the max. The first thing you may want to do is change the color. If you have a fireplace that is lined with bricks, you may want to change the color of them using paint or tile. If you only have 
a short area for the fireplace, why not change it into a feature wall that goes from floor to ceiling? If you tile the area or you paint it a contrasting color, it will look amazing. The only downside is, that sometimes people feel that taking it from floor to ceiling is going to be too much. In this situation, you can put a flat screen television above the mantle. This will further ensure that the wall looks amazing, especially if you put trim strips around the television, and it takes up what may otherwise be a “wasted space”.
Another great way to tackle the idea of wasted space and a fireplace that needs a face lift is to add on to it. Instead of having a traditional mantle, you can create a built in cabinet on all sides of the fireplace. This will make it look as though your fireplace was put into that area as an accessory to your living room or bedroom. This will be further enhanced by the fact that you add books and other decorative items to the shelves that you put into place.
When considering your fireplaces decoration, you may also decide to completely ditch traditional. Some people opt for colored stones around their fireplace instead of traditional bricks or wood. This can look really good if you enjoy white walls. You will have the plain white and it will be complimented by the colorful stones around your fireplace.
